Oklahoma fires offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle

The move comes a day after the Sooners' offense managed just three points through three quarters in a 42-25 home loss to South Carolina.

Oklahoma is parting ways with offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, according to multiple reports Monday. The decision from coach Brent Venables follows a 42-25 home loss to South Carolina in which the Sooners' offense totaled just 118 yards and three points through three quarters.

Arbuckle was in his second season running Oklahoma's offense after arriving from Washington State, where he previously served as offensive coordinator. He was making $1.5 million per year under his contract. The Sooners' offense never found consistency under him this fall, ranking 111th nationally in total offense and 108th in scoring, with quarterback John Mateer struggling to get the unit on track.

The unranked Sooners are now 4-4 and head to Florida in Week 10. It's unclear who will handle playcalling duties on an interim basis, but Kevin Wilson has been reported as the leading candidate for the role. Oklahoma made the College Football Playoff last season, making this year's offensive collapse and midseason coaching change a sharp turn for the program.
