He joins a group heavy on dugout royalty: Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochy, Lou Piniella and Joe Maddon are all on the list, along with former executives Sandy Alderson and Brian Sabean and former umpire Bill White.\n\nTurner's case rests less on wins and more on reach. As Braves owner, he pushed to get the team's games broadcast on TBS, a move that put Atlanta on televisions nationwide and helped turn the Braves into something close to a national franchise long before most teams thought that way.\n\nThe rest of the ballot is stacked enough that voters will have plenty to argue about. Baker and Piniella bring decades of managing resumes, Bochy has multiple championship runs to his name, and Maddon's career spans multiple markets and styles. Alderson and Sabean built front offices that shaped rosters for years, giving the committee a mix of candidates from the dugout, the executive suite and now, in Turner's case, the owner's box.\n\nThe committee will consider the full group in December.","published_at":"2026-11-02T17:19:39.188177+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Former Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner named as Baseball Hall of Fame candidate","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/former-atlanta-braves-owner-ted-165226349.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochy headline Hall of Fame's Contemporary Era Ballot","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7745040/2026/11/02/baseball-hall-of-fame-contemporary-era-dusty-baker-bruce-bochy/"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Baker, Piniella headline Baseball Hall of Fame contemporary ballot","url":"https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/50358968/baker-piniella-headline-baseball-hall-fame-contemporary-ballot"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Baker, Bochy, Maddon and Piniella among 8 men on Hall of Fame contemporary era committee ballot","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/baker-bochy-maddon-piniella-among-160043993.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Contemporary Baseball Era Committee unveils eight Hall of Fame candidates: Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochy, more","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/baseball-hall-of-fame-ballot-contemporary-era-baker-bochy-alderson-maddon-piniella-sabean-turner-white/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochy, and Brian Sabean are on the Hall of Fame’s Contemporary Era ballot","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/dusty-baker-bruce-bochy-brian-173000242.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Former Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker up for Hall of Fame election on Contemporary Era ballot","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/former-houston-astros-manager-dusty-175441841.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/460952cf69958c6ed6546da98d97abecad74877dcd995859a8bbd014d2111d5b/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1200_h675%3Bquality_80%3Bformat_webp/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Fsb_nation_articles_115%2Fcd16e9794ebe7fa8701b64aaeac160a5.jpg","credit":"Yahoo Sports","width":1200},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
