Chargers fall to 0-7, Harbaugh sticks with McDaniel anyway

Los Angeles managed just nine points against the rival Rams and still has not scored a touchdown in two straight games.

The Chargers lost to the Rams 24-9 on Sunday, dropping to 0-7 despite Justin Herbert starting every game this season. All nine of their points came from kicker Cameron Dicker, and the offense has now gone two straight games without a touchdown.

Herbert threw for 257 yards but added two interceptions and absorbed pressure most of the afternoon. The Chargers entered the game as the lowest-scoring offense in the league, averaging just 15 points per game, and were tied with four other teams for the worst red-zone success rate at 50 percent.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked what comes next for offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and gave an answer that satisfied no one looking for change. He confirmed McDaniel will keep calling plays, acknowledging the team knows what is going wrong without committing to fixing it by changing who is in charge.

With three Chargers primetime games still on the schedule, the losing record now threatens to turn marquee windows into low-stakes viewing unless the league finds a reason to flex something more competitive into those slots.
