Lions say Jack Campbell shows positive early signs after neck injury

The linebacker remains hospitalized after being carted off on a backboard during Detroit's 19-15 win over Minnesota.

The Detroit Lions offered a more encouraging update Monday on linebacker Jack Campbell, who remains hospitalized after a frightening neck injury suffered during Sunday's 19-15 win over the Vikings.

In a statement posted to the team's official X account at 2:31 p.m. ET, the Lions said Campbell "continues to rest and recover at a local hospital" and that "preliminary indications are positive." The organization added that, out of respect for Campbell and his family, no further details would be shared at this time.

Campbell was injured early in the fourth quarter while making a tackle on Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. The collision looked routine at first, but Campbell's body went limp immediately after hitting the ground. He remained motionless for an extended period as players and coaches from both teams took a knee on the field. He was eventually strapped to a backboard and carted off without visible movement.

After the game, Lions coach Dan Campbell said he had no new information on his player's condition, and the win over Minnesota, the first loss of the season for the previously unbeaten Vikings, was overshadowed entirely by concern for the linebacker. Monday's statement marked the first sign of hope since the injury occurred.
