Lions end Vikings' unbeaten run, Dolphins toast another year

Detroit beat Minnesota 19-15 in a defensive grind, keeping the 1972 Dolphins as the NFL's last undefeated champions.

The Minnesota Vikings' undefeated season ended Sunday with a 19-15 loss to the Detroit Lions, a result that lets the 1972 Miami Dolphins keep bragging rights as the league's only unbeaten champions for another year.

The game was mostly a low-scoring slog until the fourth quarter. Minnesota's offense, led by Kyler Murray, had struggled much of the season, and the defense that had carried the team to a 6-0 start finally buckled in the second half, letting Jahmyr Gibbs run wild for Detroit.

The win was overshadowed somewhat by a scary injury to Lions linebacker Jack Campbell, who was carted off the field after colliding with a teammate. He was one of several Detroit defensive starters to leave the game, though the depleted unit still held on.

The victory was a significant one for Detroit, which had been in danger of falling three games back of the Vikings in the standings. Instead, the loss snaps Minnesota's perfect start and tightens the race atop the division.
