Baker Mayfield failed to complete any of his throws as Tampa Bay leaned entirely on a muddy ground game to shut out Atlanta.
The Buccaneers beat the Falcons 16-0 on Sunday without completing a single pass, something ESPN says hasn't happened since the team's game in '74. Heavy rain turned Raymond James Stadium into a swamp for the Week 8 matchup, and Baker Mayfield came up empty through the air, throwing incomplete passes all game. He was also sacked for a 2-yard loss by Atlanta's Harold Perkins Jr., leaving Tampa Bay with -2 passing yards overall.
None of that mattered much, because the Bucs simply ran the ball into the mud over and over. Tampa Bay piled up 321 total yards, every bit of it on the ground. Bucky Irving carried 27 times for 170 yards and scored the game's only touchdown, while Kenny Gainwell added 140 yards on 25 carries. Mayfield even out-gained his own passing output by running for 14 yards himself.
The shutout win came entirely without a forward pass finding its target, a stat line so rare that CBS Sports pointed out nothing like it had been seen since 1933. For a league increasingly built around the passing game, it was a throwback afternoon decided by legs, mud, and stubborn defense.
