Ravens down to third-string QB after Jackson and Huntley exit

Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano entered against the Bills after Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley both went down injured.

Lamar Jackson lasted one play against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday before leaving the game. Backup Tyler Huntley went down shortly after with a right foot injury, which left Baltimore with emergency third quarterback Joe Fagnano, an undrafted rookie out of UConn who had been one of the more impressive young quarterbacks this preseason.

The situation triggered the NFL's emergency third quarterback rule, which carries a specific wrinkle. Huntley can still return to the game if he is cleared, but doing so would require Fagnano to come out. Fagnano could only re-enter after that if Huntley got hurt again. Huntley's status was being described as questionable as the situation developed.

For a team built around Jackson's ability to extend plays, watching its third option take snaps is not where anyone in Baltimore expected the day to go. Fagnano's emergence is also a reminder of how thin quarterback depth can get once injuries start piling up in the same game.
