Georgia routs Florida 27-8 in rivalry game moved to Atlanta

Four Florida turnovers and a shaky quarterback situation left coach Jon Sumrall apologizing to fans after the loss.

Georgia handled Florida 27-8 on Saturday in the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, which was relocated to Atlanta because of ongoing stadium construction at its usual Jacksonville site. The Bulldogs controlled the game from early on, bouncing back from a loss to unranked Auburn two weeks earlier.

Florida turned the ball over four times, and Georgia converted those mistakes into 17 points. The Gators also struggled to protect their quarterbacks all afternoon. Aaron Philo got the start over Tramell Jones Jr., with coach Jon Sumrall explaining afterward that Jones has been playing through an injury that could require surgery once the season ends. Sumrall did not rule out another quarterback change going forward.

After the game, Sumrall skipped the excuses and apologized directly to Florida fans, saying he would work to fix what went wrong. He pointed to some progress on defense as a bright spot and singled out Bailey Stockton for playing through his own injury. He was notably less generous in his assessment of the offense's performance.
