Oregon receiver arrested over high-speed police chase

Freshman Messiah Hampton faces two felony eluding charges and a reckless driving count tied to an Oct. 18 chase.

Oregon wide receiver Messiah Hampton was arrested and booked into Lane County Jail on Friday, Oct. 30, and released that same night. The freshman from Rochester, New York faces two felony charges of attempting to elude police and one misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

The charges stem from an incident in the early morning hours of Oct. 18, shortly after Oregon's 17-14 win over Nebraska the previous day. Two vehicles eluded Springfield, Oregon police during a high-speed chase. No arrests were made at the time, but one of the vehicles was later found abandoned near the area where Ducks wide receiver Evan Stewart was arrested and booked on DUII charges at Springfield Municipal Jail.

The arrest comes one day before Oregon hosts No. 20 Northwestern. It adds another complication for a Ducks program already dealing with the fallout from Stewart's arrest in the same early-morning stretch following the Nebraska game.
