Oklahoma City is now also without Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace for extended stretches, with the latter two at risk of missing the entire season.
The Thunder announced Friday that Chet Holmgren underwent a biological treatment to address a small patellar tendon tear in his right knee and will be out 8-to-10 weeks, putting his return around January.
Holmgren first felt discomfort in the knee during OKC's win over the LA Clippers this past Sunday and had missed the last two games with patellar tendinitis. He spent the days since consulting multiple specialists before settling on this course of treatment.
The timing is rough for a Thunder team already dealing with injuries to Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace, both sidelined for extended time as of earlier this week, with the pair also at risk of missing the entire 2026-27 season. Holmgren had been averaging 12 points for Oklahoma City before the injury.
With three key rotation pieces out for the foreseeable future, Oklahoma City's depth will be tested in a way that complicates whatever plans the franchise had for defending its championship standing this season.
