He chose the Tar Heels over a list that included Arkansas, Louisville and Kentucky.\n\nHenry is considered one of the top prospects in the 2027 class, landing at No. 3 overall on the Rivals Industry Ranking, which averages the rankings from Rivals, ESPN and 247Sports. Rivals itself has him even higher, at No. 2 nationally, while ESPN also lists him as the No. 2 overall recruit in the class. 247Sports has him at No. 4.\n\nHenry grew up in Charlotte and is the son of the late Chris Henry, who played wide receiver in the NFL. He has previously spoken about getting to know the North Carolina coaching staff during the recruiting process.\n\nThe commitment gives North Carolina its highest ranked recruit since 2019, a notable building block for a program looking to keep pace in a crowded and talented 2027 recruiting class.","published_at":"2026-10-30T22:05:00.494376+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"5-star SF DeMarcus Henry commits to North Carolina","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/5-star-sf-demarcus-henry-194445113.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"North Carolina lands Henry, the No. 2 recruit in the '27 Class","url":"https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/50329377/north-carolina-lands-demarcus-henry-no-2-recruit-27"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Demarcus Henry commits to North Carolina: Five-star wing gives Michael Malone massive recruiting win","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/demarcus-henry-commits-north-carolina-unc-michael-malone-2027-recruiting/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"DeMarcus Henry, 5-star Louisville, Kentucky recruiting target, picks UNC","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/demarcus-henry-5-star-louisville-194522945.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Michael Malone lands 5-star DeMarcus Henry, UNC’s first elite recruit of his tenure","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7739792/2026/10/30/demarcus-henry-unc-commitment-michael-malone-recruiting/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"North Carolina gets commitment from 5-star recruit DeMarcus Henry, nation's top-ranked small forward","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/mens-college-basketball/article/north-carolina-gets-commitment-from-5-star-recruit-demarcus-henry-nations-top-ranked-small-forward-205224865.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"North Carolina lands 5-star Demarcus Henry, nation's No. 2 recruit","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/north-carolina-lands-5-star-212806702.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"How social media reacted to North Carolina landing DeMarcus Henry","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/social-media-reacted-north-carolina-211504399.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/251c1340a55923eb23dcf5ef1b3acb526498ccd847791102fc3559c63fdd1655/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1200_h630%3Bquality_80%3Bformat_webp/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Fon3_recruiting_articles_521%2F9c3864727b0a00c372324fc117bb6b86.jpg","credit":"Yahoo Sports","width":1200},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
