Walter and Kushner finalize terms of Lakers sale at $12.5 billion

The two sides met Thursday to lock down the agreement after questions swirled about whether Kushner's group actually had the money.

Mark Walter and Josh Kushner have agreed on all outstanding terms for the sale of the Lakers, with the franchise valued at $12.5 billion. Kushner, the Thrive Capital founder, met with Walter on Thursday to finalize the transaction, and sources say a formal agreement is expected to be signed soon.

The deal has been a talking point since it first surfaced in August, when Walter agreed to sell the team he bought for $10 billion in 2025 to a group including Kushner and Disney's former CEO Bob Iger. The speed of the flip raised eyebrows around the league.

Those eyebrows got a workout this week after Bill Simmons claimed on his podcast that "the Lakers guy doesn't have the money yet," suggesting Kushner was short several billion dollars on the purchase. That claim has since been undercut by reporting that the sides had in fact agreed on all terms and were moving toward signing.

The Lakers sale remains one of the largest transactions in sports history, and the final signature will make it official.
