The junior quarterback had been sidelined by a shoulder injury and missed the Oct. 17 game against Texas, but he has taken first-team reps in practice this week and will start despite still dealing with the injury.\n\nJones Jr. isn't walking away empty-handed in terms of recent form. In Philo's absence, he led the Gators past Texas, throwing for 155 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while adding 41 rushing yards on 10 carries. Jones is also nursing an injury of his own, according to reports.\n\nThe No. 17 Gators will try to snap a five-game losing streak in the series when they face Georgia in Atlanta. The decision to go back to Philo over a quarterback coming off a win against a ranked Texas team signals Florida's staff sees something in Philo's health and fit that outweighs Jones's recent production. Kickoff details and further injury updates were not specified.","published_at":"2026-10-30T22:50:35.094986+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Florida announces starting quarterback for Saturday’s Georgia game","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/florida-announces-starting-quarterback-saturday-171931797.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Aaron Philo back as Florida starting QB: Junior returns from shoulder injury for rivalry game vs. Georgia","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/aaron-philo-florida-starting-qb-georgia-rivalry-game/"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Sources: Gators to start Philo over Jones vs. No. 3 Bulldogs","url":"https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/50328979/sources-florida-aaron-philo-resumes-qb1-role-vs-georgia"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"No. 17 Florida to start QB Aaron Philo against Georgia in the 'Cocktail Party,' AP source says","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/no-17-florida-start-qb-165400147.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Florida QB Aaron Philo will start against Georgia, per report","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/florida-qb-aaron-philo-start-171934577.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Florida plans to start Aaron Philo at quarterback against Georgia","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/florida-plans-start-aaron-philo-174703605.html"},{"outlet":"Fox Sports","publisher":"Fox Sports","title":"No. 17 Florida To Start QB Aaron Philo Against Georgia In The 'Cocktail Party'","url":"https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/florida-gators-aaron-philo-injury-georgia-bulldogs"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
