The 8-foot bronze piece was unveiled two years ago to mark the moment on March 9, 2009, when Wade hit a game-winning shot in double overtime against the Chicago Bulls and declared from the scorer's table, \"This is my house!\"\n\nProblem was, almost nobody thought the face looked like Wade, who spent 15 years with the franchise. The reaction online was unusually unanimous: the statue was bad. Wade himself tried to wave off the criticism at the time, arguing the piece didn't need to resemble him exactly to capture the moment, but the jokes kept coming anyway.\n\nThe Heat eventually listened. The face was redesigned over the offseason, and the artists who made the change said it was \"the right thing to do\" to strengthen the portrait. Wade responded simply: \"It may be my likeness, but it will always be our house.\"","published_at":"2026-10-30T16:49:49.572837+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Dwyane Wade's Heat statue gets new, enhanced head after criticism","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/dwyane-wades-heat-statue-gets-new-enhanced-head-after-criticism-161610043.html"},{"outlet":"SB Nation","publisher":"SB Nation","title":"The Heat fixed their terrible Dwyane Wade statue, and it actually looks like him now","url":"https://www.sbnation.com/nba/1134380/miami-heat-fixed-dwyane-wade-statue-before-and-after"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Infamous Dwyane Wade statue outside Heat arena gets facelift to 'strengthen the portrait'","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7737657/2026/10/30/dwyane-wade-statue-heat-arena-improvement/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Heat unveil an updated Wade statue, after original was widely panned for not looking like him","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/heat-unveil-updated-wade-statue-155911393.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"The Heat fixed their terrible Dwyane Wade statue, and it actually looks like him now","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/heat-fixed-terrible-dwyane-wade-161842818.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"See Miami's Dwyane Wade statue before and after drastic changes","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/see-miamis-dwyane-wade-statue-161821372.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Heat unveil updated Wade statue after original's face was panned","url":"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50328871/heat-unveil-updated-dwyane-wade-statue-original-face-was-panned"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Heat reveal completely revamped Dwyane Wade statue outside Keseya Center","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/heat-reveal-completely-revamped-dwyane-172126971.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Miami Heat unveil revamped Dwyane Wade statue","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/miami-heat-unveil-revamped-dwyane-173611937.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Dwyane Wade keeps it classy with immediate reaction to Heat statue update","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/dwyane-wade-keeps-classy-immediate-174843689.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Dwyane Wade's statue gets a facelift: Heat legend's bronze likeness updated with new face","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/dwyane-wade-statue-facelift-heat-legends-bronze-likeness-updated/"}],"image":{"url":"https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/cc9af40aeac812501ba1eed11da0e989d4266d95191d46dc6656423a3f0238ad/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1200_h675%3Bquality_80%3Bformat_webp/https%3A%2F%2Fs.yimg.com%2Fos%2Fcreatr-uploaded-images%2F2025-01%2F6020f680-ca42-11ef-b79f-eddc5c54517e","credit":"Yahoo Sports","width":1200},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
