Brewers hold championship parade after first World Series title

Thousands of fans lined downtown Milwaukee streets Friday to celebrate the franchise's first World Series win.

Milwaukee threw its long-awaited party on Friday morning, as fans packed downtown streets for a parade celebrating the Brewers' first World Series title. The small-market club clinched the championship on Wednesday with a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, closing out the series in five games.

Milwaukee Public Schools canceled classes for the day so students and families could take part. The Parade of Champions wound through downtown before wrapping up with a fan fest at Henry Maier Festival Park, near the shore of Lake Michigan.

The celebration started a little early. On Thursday night, several Brewers players, including team captain Christian Yelich and Cy Young Award favorite Jacob Misiorowski, showed up at Lambeau Field for the Green Bay Packers game and got a loud ovation from the crowd.

For a franchise that had never won it all, the week capped a long stretch of waiting for its fans, who turned out in force to see the trophy make its way through the city.
