Packers' Watson hospitalized, then returns to sideline same night

Christian Watson broke a rib and spat up blood after a 53-yard catch, but was back at Lambeau Field within hours of his hospital visit.

Christian Watson's night took a strange turn against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday. The Packers wide receiver hauled in a 53-yard catch from Jordan Love, stayed down on the turf, and was eventually taken off Lambeau Field in an ambulance with a chest injury suffered with 9:11 remaining in the second quarter.

At the hospital, Watson learned he had broken a rib and had spat up blood. The team said the visit was precautionary. About an hour later, he rode back to the stadium by ambulance and walked out to the sideline with 7:06 left in the third quarter, drawing a loud ovation from the home crowd.

Watson compared the scene to a wrestling entrance. "It was super dramatic. I felt like I was watching a WWE SmackDown vs. RAW event or something out there," he said afterward, describing the cameras following him as he came out of the ambulance in the tunnel.

Before the injury, Watson had already put together a strong first half, recording six catches for 100 yards. The Packers went on to beat the Panthers.
