Houston is targeting Milwaukee assistant general manager Matt Kleine, who previously worked for the Astros before joining the Brewers organization.
The Astros have a vacant general manager opening, and according to The Athletic, they are focused on Milwaukee assistant general manager Matt Kleine to fill it. The pursuit comes just as the Brewers are still celebrating their first World Series title.
Kleine, who was 40 entering the season, has spent the past two decades with the Brewers organization, working his way up from associate scout to his current role, which he was promoted into on Nov. 1, 2023. According to the team's media guide, his duties focus on roster construction, transactions, finances, procedural compliance and overseeing salary arbitration, among other responsibilities.
Before joining Milwaukee in 2007, Kleine previously worked for the Astros, giving him existing ties to the organization now courting him. Houston is coming off an 81-81 season and is looking to fill out its front office leadership as it searches for its next general manager.
