NFL doubles Caleb Williams' fine for wearing unapproved shoes

The Bears quarterback was fined $23,882 for wearing Caddix cleats in Week 7, twice the $11,941 penalty he got for the same shoes in Week 6.

The NFL has fined Caleb Williams $23,882 for wearing an "unauthorized logo" on his shoes during the Bears' Week 7 game against the Patriots. That's double the $11,941 fine he received last week for wearing the same forbidden footwear against the Falcons in Week 6.

Williams has made clear he isn't backing down. He plans to keep wearing Caddix shoes, a brand with no deal with the league, and will presumably appeal this latest fine as well.

"I'm huge into trying to stay on the field," Williams said Wednesday. "I'm huge into trying to be healthy. It's a rough game and things like that. So the cleats, they've been great. They've been super comfy and they've worked."

The math suggests this escalates if Williams keeps lacing up the Caddix shoes, with fines doubling week over week so far. For a quarterback focused on staying healthy and on the field, the cost of comfort is adding up fast, though so far it hasn't been enough to change his footwear choice.
