With the Brewers celebrating their first-ever World Series championship, the rest of the league is pivoting straight into the winter market, and the clock is ticking toward an expected lockout.\n\nPlayers with expiring contracts became free agents, the trade market reopened, and a five-day quiet period began, set to end Nov. 3, after which free agents can finally negotiate and sign with any club. Rankings across the industry put Tarik Skubal at the top of the class, with the two-time AL Cy Young winner expected to draw interest from essentially every major-market team and a few surprise bidders besides. Freddy Peralta and Teruaki Sato also headline the group of top available names.\n\nCommissioner Rob Manfred is expected to shut down the offseason with a lockout on Dec. 1, giving teams roughly a month to make their moves before things go quiet. That timeline has front offices bracing for a frenzied November, with clubs trying to get deals done early rather than risk a long winter freeze once the lockout hits.\n\nSome notable names could still re-sign with their current teams depending on option decisions, but for now, the board is wide open as the quiet period ticks down toward Nov. 3.","published_at":"2026-10-29T21:48:43.305445+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"NBC Sports","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"MLB Free Agent Rankings 2026-27: Tarik Skubal, Freddy Peralta, Teruaki Sato headline this offseason's Top 100","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/mlb-free-agent-rankings-2026-27-tarik-skubal-freddy-peralta-teruaki-sato-headline-this-offseasons-top-100"},{"outlet":"Fox Sports","publisher":"Fox Sports","title":"The Top 50 MLB Free Agents Of The 2026-27 Offseason, Ranked","url":"https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mlb/top-50-mlb-free-agents-2026-27-offseason-ranked"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Top MLB free agents: Tarik Skubal leads top 10 ranking for winter 2026","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/top-mlb-free-agents-tarik-034736343.html"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Dodgers’ hopes of retaining Tarik Skubal may have new suitor as perfect fit for ace","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/dodgers-hopes-retaining-tarik-skubal-000107018.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Tarik Skubal tops list of nine Dodgers free agents","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/tarik-skubal-tops-list-nine-130000834.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"MLB Free Agent Rankings 2026-27: Tarik Skubal, Freddy Peralta, Teruaki Sato headline this offseason's Top 100","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/mlb-free-agent-rankings-2026-140235013.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Ranking the top 50 MLB free agents for the 2026-27 offseason, plus landing spots for every player","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-free-agency-2026-27-ranking-top-50-landing-spots/"}],"image":{"url":"https://nbcsports.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/c6048d3/2147483647/strip/false/crop/1920x1080+0+0/resize/1920x1080!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhdliveextra-a.akamaihd.net%2FHD%2Fimage_sports%2FNBCU_Sports_Group_-_nbcsports%2F777%2F722%2Fnbc_dps_DavidOrtizFullInterview_261027.jpg","credit":"NBC Sports","width":1920},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
