His work behind the plate mattered just as much. Contreras guided a pitching staff that limited Tampa Bay to 12 runs across the five games and threw out three runners attempting to steal, two at second base and one at third, the first catcher to pull that off in a World Series since Phillies catcher Darren Daulton in 1993.\n\nContreras was Milwaukee's steadiest hitter all October, closing the postseason with a .373/.448/.588 slash line, three homers and nine RBIs. His path to this moment started far from the majors, in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, where he played ball with his brothers using balls made of wadded paper and tape before signing with the Atlanta Braves at 17 and moving from the infield to behind the plate.","published_at":"2026-10-29T16:35:36.606804+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"William Contreras’ journey from Venezuela to World Series MVP","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/william-contreras-journey-venezuela-world-034057375.html"},{"outlet":"Fox Sports","publisher":"Fox Sports","title":"Brewers Catcher William Contreras Named World Series MVP","url":"https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mlb/world-series-mvp-william-contreras-milwaukee-brewers"},{"outlet":"MLB.com","publisher":"MLB.com","title":"Contreras honored with World Series MVP for prowess behind the plate","url":"https://www.mlb.com/news/william-contreras-wins-2026-world-series-mvp"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Milwaukee's William Contreras wins World Series MVP with .381 average, 10 ABS overturns","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/milwaukees-william-contreras-wins-world-034520282.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"William Contreras named World Series MVP after leading Brewers to first title","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/william-contreras-named-world-series-033901824.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"William Contreras named World Series MVP as Brewers win first championship","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/william-contreras-named-world-series-040211119.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Contreras earns World Series MVP honors with .381 average, 10 ABS overturns","url":"https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/50314424/brewers-william-contreras-earns-world-series-mvp-honors"},{"outlet":"SB Nation","publisher":"SB Nation","title":"William Contreras named World Series MVP as Brewers win first championship","url":"https://www.sbnation.com/mlb/1134134/world-series-mvp-william-contreras"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras wins World Series MVP award","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/milwaukee-brewers-catcher-william-contreras-041153083.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras wins World Series MVP award","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/milwaukee-brewers-catcher-william-contreras-041153748.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Brewers catcher William Contreras wins World Series MVP in competitive race with teammates","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/breaking-news/article/brewers-catcher-william-contreras-wins-world-series-mvp-in-competitive-race-with-teammates-043036010.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Brewers catcher Contreras named World Series MVP","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/brewers-catcher-contreras-named-world-043329446.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Brewers catcher William Contreras wins World Series MVP thanks to big effort with his bat and behind the plate","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/breaking-news/article/brewers-catcher-william-contreras-wins-world-series-mvp-thanks-to-big-effort-with-his-bat-and-behind-the-plate-043737942.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"William Contreras Named World Series MVP","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/william-contreras-named-world-series-045450331.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Milwaukee's William Contreras wins World Series MVP with .381 average, 10 ABS overturns","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/milwaukees-william-contreras-wins-world-021007585.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"William Contreras caps Brewers’ historic title run with World Series MVP","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/william-contreras-caps-brewers-historic-150027422.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Milwaukee’s William Contreras wins World Series MVP with .381 average, 10 ABS overturns","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/milwaukee-william-contreras-wins-world-151759482.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/00ee5798d9d1d3994f87a6a1256c81c943e2f8535ec9d4981421631cecbff89e/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1200_h675%3Bquality_80%3Bformat_webp/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Fthe_sporting_news_articles_584%2F61ed39ca9f1294722bfa07bb398c6fc4","credit":"Yahoo Sports","width":1200},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
