Harbaugh had previously left the door open, saying the Chargers would spend their time off \"looking into everything\" as they try to fix what has gone wrong.\n\nThat review apparently stopped short of removing McDaniel from playcalling duties. Harbaugh's public backing suggests the coach sees the issues elsewhere, or at least believes a midseason change at coordinator would not solve them.\n\nFor now, McDaniel stays in charge of the offense as the Chargers try to turn their winless start around. Whether that faith is rewarded will depend on how the offense performs once the bye week ends and the losing streak is put to the test.","published_at":"2026-10-28T21:48:43.212133+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Mike McDaniel will remain the Chargers' offensive playcaller","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/mike-mcdaniel-remain-chargers-offensive-193321819.html"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"Mike McDaniel will remain the Chargers' offensive playcaller","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/mike-mcdaniel-will-remain-the-chargers-offensive-playcaller"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Harbaugh: Winless Chargers to stick with McDaniel as offensive playcaller","url":"https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50310259/chargers-sticking-mike-mcdaniel-offensive-playcaller"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Chargers make final decision on Mike McDaniel's play-calling duties","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/chargers-final-decision-mike-mcdaniels-200422966.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Jim Harbaugh says Mike McDaniel will continue calling plays for Chargers offense","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7733234/2026/10/28/jim-harbaugh-mike-mcdaniel-chargers-offense-playcalling/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Chargers sticking with Mike McDaniel as play-caller after 0-6 start, Week 7 bye","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/chargers-sticking-with-mike-mcdaniel-as-play-caller-after-0-6-start-week-7-bye-212959314.html"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Chargers could run themselves into ground with latest decision","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/28/sports/chargers-game-plan-mike-mcdaniel-rams/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Chargers could run themselves into ground with latest decision","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/chargers-could-run-themselves-ground-213556677.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://nbcsports.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/0787861/2147483647/strip/false/crop/1920x1080+0+0/resize/1920x1080!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhdliveextra-a.akamaihd.net%2FHD%2Fimage_sports%2FNBCU_Sports_Group_-_nbcsports%2F864%2F135%2FKylerMurayPowerRankings10-28.jpg","credit":"Pro Football Talk","width":1920},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
