He delivered the news in a roughly two-and-a-half-minute video message, saying \"This will be my last season. Totally my decision. It's just time.\"\n\nJohnson, who turned 70 this summer, said fans have increasingly asked how much longer he planned to keep doing the show. He has long called Inside a \"get-to job,\" something he looks forward to rather than dreads, but said his decision ultimately came down to the part of the work that viewers never see.\n\nFor decades, Johnson has prided himself on the hours of preparation he puts in each day before sitting down at the desk. He said he always told himself he would walk away once that daily preparation became too much to sustain, and that time has now arrived.\n\nNo further details were given about who might replace him or how the final season will be marked.","published_at":"2026-10-28T21:48:43.212133+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Ernie Johnson retiring from ‘Inside the NBA’ as he reveals health issues","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/28/sports/ernie-johnson-retiring-from-inside-the-nba-as-he-reveals-health-issues/"},{"outlet":"Awful Announcing","publisher":"Awful Announcing","title":"Ernie Johnson announces this will be his final season hosting ‘Inside the NBA’","url":"https://awfulannouncing.com/tnt-sports/ernie-johnson-final-season-inside-the-nba.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ernie Johnson announces this will be his final season of 'Inside the NBA'","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ernie-johnson-announces-final-season-180459168.html"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ernie Johnson announces this will be the final year he hosts 'Inside the NBA'","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/ernie-johnson-announces-this-will-be-the-final-year-he-hosts-inside-the-nba-180848635.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"4 best Ernie Johnson replacements after major ‘Inside the NBA’ reveal","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/4-best-ernie-johnson-replacements-185211866.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ernie Johnson makes major ‘Inside the NBA’ announcement, 'It's just time'","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ernie-johnson-makes-major-inside-184202878.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Ernie Johnson says he's stepping away from 'Inside the NBA' following the 2026-27 season","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/ernie-johnson-inside-the-nba-retirement-charles-barkley/"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Ernie Johnson leaving 'Inside the NBA' after season: 'It's just time'","url":"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50309868/ernie-johnson-leaving-nba-host-season"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ernie Johnson planning to leave Inside the NBA after this season","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ernie-johnson-planning-leave-inside-191647798.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ernie Johnson’s Inside the NBA announcement has entire sports world reacting","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ernie-johnson-inside-nba-announcement-193037631.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Broadcasting legend Ernie Johnson announces 'Inside the NBA' exit","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/broadcasting-legend-ernie-johnson-announces-201508968.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ernie Johnson retiring from ‘Inside the NBA’ as he reveals health issues","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ernie-johnson-retiring-inside-nba-183821537.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ernie Johnson to retire from 'Inside the NBA' in June after a 37-year run as host","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ernie-johnson-retire-inside-nba-230600291.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"'Thank you for being our leader all these years:' Watch Charles Barkley's emotional farewell to Ernie Johnson","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/thank-being-leader-years-watch-232010412.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
