Indianapolis gets a fourth-round pick in return, a modest haul for a player who has spent years as one of the most respected voices in the locker room.\n\nBuckner arrived in Indianapolis via trade before the 2020 season and gave the Colts everything he had, playing through a dislocated joint in his hand, a torn UCL in his elbow, a badly sprained ankle, a recurring back issue and a herniated disc in his neck that threatened his career in 2025. He stuck around after the team's collapse in 2022 despite being frustrated and furious, but his patience with the franchise's direction has clearly run out over the past two weeks.\n\nThis is the latest move in what looks like a deliberate dismantling of the Colts roster, with Buckner becoming the next significant piece shipped out. For San Francisco, it is a reunion with a player who was part of the core they drafted nearly a decade ago, now walking back into a defensive line that gets a proven interior presence.","published_at":"2026-10-27T21:48:13.498377+00:00","source_count":7,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"DeForest Buckner is latest Colts to get traded; what it means","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/deforest-buckner-latest-colts-traded-205002312.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Sources: Colts make second major trade, send DT Buckner to 49ers","url":"https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50301125/colts-trade-de-deforest-buckner-49ers"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Colts trade DT DeForest Buckner to 49ers for fourth-round pick: Source","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7729370/2026/10/27/colts-deforest-buckner-trade-49ers/"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"49ers agree to acquire DeForest Buckner from Colts","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/49ers-agree-to-acquire-deforest-buckner-from-colts"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Colts rumors: DeForest Buckner, Quenton Nelson ‘more likely’ to be traded than Jonathan Taylor","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/colts-rumors-deforest-buckner-quenton-194300631.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Insider: Colts' 2 stars more likely to be traded than Jonathan Taylor","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/insider-colts-2-stars-more-214612887.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Colts reportedly trade DT DeForest Buckner to 49ers","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/breaking-news/article/colts--trade-dt-deforest-buckner-204457722.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"49ers agree to acquire DeForest Buckner from Colts","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/49ers-agree-acquire-deforest-buckner-205251855.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"DeForest Buckner is latest Colts to get traded; what it means","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/deforest-buckner-latest-colts-traded-205002775.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"DeForest Buckner trade grades: Who won 49ers-Colts deal?","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/deforest-buckner-trade-grades-won-205919695.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Indianapolis Colts Trade DeForest Buckner","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/indianapolis-colts-trade-deforest-buckner-205556409.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"49ers add another defensive tackle after DeForest Buckner trade","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/49ers-add-another-defensive-tackle-210212914.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"BREAKING: Colts trade DeForest Buckner back to San Francisco 49ers for fourth-round pick","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/breaking-colts-trade-deforest-buckner-210000039.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"George Kittle celebrates 49ers DeForest Buckner trade with perfect photo","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/george-kittle-celebrates-49ers-deforest-210702321.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"DeForest Buckner trade: Colts send DT to 49ers in exchange for 2027 fourth-round pick, per report","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/deforest-buckner-trade-colts-49ers/"},{"outlet":"Fox Sports","publisher":"Fox Sports","title":"Reunion In The Bay: 49ers Reportedly Land DT DeForest Buckner From Colts In Trade","url":"https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/deforest-buckner-trade-49ers-colts-details"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Former Oregon DT DeForest Buckner traded from Colts to 49ers","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/former-oregon-dt-deforest-buckner-210751198.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"The 49ers bring back DeForest Buckner in trade with the Colts, AP source says","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/49ers-bring-back-deforest-buckner-213015060.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"George Kittle reacts to DeForest Buckner trade","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/george-kittle-reacts-deforest-buckner-212834831.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"49ers reunite with DeForest Buckner in trade with Colts","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/49ers-reunite-deforest-buckner-trade-215247672.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Who won the DeForest Buckner trade?
