Kawhi Leonard out weeks with knee swelling, will miss Clippers return

The Raptors forward hurt his left knee and will sit out the team's only trip to face the Clippers in Los Angeles this season.

Kawhi Leonard's first season in Toronto after an offseason trade is already hitting a snag. Sources tell ESPN's Shams Charania that Leonard is expected to miss a period of weeks due to swelling in his left knee.

The timing stings for Raptors fans hoping to see Leonard face his former team. He will miss Toronto's only game against the Clippers in Los Angeles this season, meaning his long-awaited return to the Intuit Dome will have to wait at least another year.

The Raptors maintain they have enough depth at forward to cover for Leonard's absence while he recovers. Still, losing a star acquired specifically to push the roster forward is a blow, even a temporary one, and it fits a pattern that has followed Leonard for much of his career. For now, Toronto will lean on its other wing options and wait for updates on his knee before mapping out next steps.
