Jerry Jones says Cowboys role for Troy Aikman is 'very possible'

Jones says he and Aikman talked on the field before Monday night's win over the Eagles, with Aikman's ESPN deal expiring at season's end.

Jerry Jones isn't ruling out bringing Troy Aikman back into the fold. Speaking Tuesday on Dallas station 105.3 The Fan, the Cowboys owner said it's "very possible" Aikman could take on a significant role with the organization, adding the team "could and would" be open to it.

The comments come a day after Jones and Aikman had an on-field conversation, reportedly lasting about 10 minutes, at Lincoln Financial Field before the Cowboys' win over the Eagles on Monday night. It also follows remarks Jones made last Wednesday at the conclusion of an NFL owners meeting in New York, where he said he was following Aikman's situation.

Aikman's contract with ESPN runs out at the end of the season, and his broadcast future is uncertain. He was reportedly caught off guard when his longtime partner Joe Buck quietly signed a long-term extension with ESPN months ago, as the two were expected to enter the final year of their deals together. Aikman has said he would "have a hard time not taking a good look" at a chance to work for the franchise that drafted him first overall in 1989 and with whom he won three Super Bowls. He has also worked as a consultant for the Dolphins.
