Mississippi State QB Kamario Taylor out for season, needs foot surgery

The breakout star who led the Bulldogs to a 4-0 start and Heisman buzz injured his toe in September and will have surgery.

Mississippi State announced Tuesday that quarterback Kamario Taylor will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury requiring surgery. Taylor had been one of the breakout stories of the early college football season, leading the Bulldogs to a 4-0 start and drawing Heisman hype before injuring his toe in September.

In a statement released by the school, Taylor said he had worked with Mississippi State's medical staff every day in an effort to get back on the field with his teammates. "Missing the rest of this season is hard to accept, but I know God has a plan," he said. He added that his role will change over the coming weeks but that his commitment to the team will not, and he asked the Bulldog Family to support his teammates the way they've supported him.

The injury ends a remarkable month for Taylor, who emerged from relative obscurity to become one of the sport's most talked-about quarterbacks before the setback. Mississippi State now has to figure out how to finish the season without him under center.
