Barkley injures back in return, Eagles fall to 2-5

The running back tweaked his hamstring on his first carry and then hurt his back trying to play through it as Philadelphia lost 38-21 to Dallas.

Saquon Barkley's comeback lasted about as long as it took to get hurt again. Back from a hamstring injury, the Eagles running back was in and out of Monday night's 38-21 loss to the Cowboys, and the team announced in the fourth quarter he was questionable to return with a back injury.

Barkley told reporters afterward that he tweaked the hamstring on his very first run of the game, then hurt his back trying to play through it. "I don't get it. I just have to find a way to get healthy," he said. "It's annoying. That's what I'm dealing with so far in the season and I just got to find a way to get healthy."

The loss drops Philadelphia to 2-5 in what is shaping up to be a lost season for the defending contenders. The Eagles have leaned heavily on Barkley all year, and his latest setback adds to an already banged-up roster. He said after the game he did not believe the back issue would keep him out going forward, but the timing could hardly be worse for a team already short on answers.
