The NFL made the announcement during halftime of Monday Night Football's Cowboys-Eagles game.
Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, the NFL confirmed Monday during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles game on Monday Night Football. ESPN, which carries Monday Night Football, will also broadcast the Super Bowl itself.
The choice is notable mainly because Jay-Z has spent the last seven years helping select who gets the gig in the first place. His company, Roc Nation, has partnered with the NFL on halftime show selections, giving him a direct say in who takes the stage for the league's biggest game. This time around, he picked himself.
Reports last week suggested Jay-Z was the frontrunner, with Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber also having been in consideration. Given Roc Nation's role in the process, the outcome was not exactly a surprise.
Super Bowl LXI will be played Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
