Joe Cronin was hired as assistant hitting coach, joining Edwar Gonzalez, who remains on staff in the same role.\n\nFatse had most recently worked with the Rays, but he previously spent time as Boston's hitting coach from 2022 through April of this year before that run ended. He now steps into Philadelphia to replace Kevin Long, whose tenure wraps up after a season in which most of the Phillies' hitters regressed.\n\nThe hire signals a shakeup in how the Phillies approach offense after a disappointing year at the plate. With Fatse and Cronin now in place alongside Gonzalez, the coaching staff gets a near-total overhaul in that department, putting the pressure on the new group to get more production out of a roster that underperformed last season.","published_at":"2026-10-27T21:48:13.498377+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Phillies bring in Rays' Fatse as hitting coach","url":"https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/50298454/phillies-name-rays-peter-fatse-new-hitting-coach"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Phillies name Pete Fatse their hitting coach, Joe Cronin hired as assistant hitting coach","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/phillies-name-pete-fatse-hitting-155041219.html"},{"outlet":"MLB.com","publisher":"MLB.com","title":"Phillies hire Fatse to be new hitting coach (source)","url":"https://www.mlb.com/news/phillies-hire-peter-fatse-as-new-hitting-coach"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Phillies to name Peter Fatse as hitting coach: Sources","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7726721/2026/10/26/phillies-peter-fatse-hitting-coach/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Phillies hire Peter Fatse as Hitting Coach","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/phillies-hire-peter-fatse-hitting-214816513.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Phillies to hire Peter Fatse as next hitting coach","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/phillies-hire-peter-fatse-next-180607454.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Phillies reportedly hiring Peter Fatse as new hitting coach, joining Carlos Mendoza on Don Mattingly's staff","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/phillies-reportedly-hiring-peter-fatse-as-new-hitting-coach-joining-carlos-mendoza-on-don-mattinglys-staff-224102083.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Phillies Hire Former Red Sox Hitting Coach to Boost Struggling Offense","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/phillies-hire-former-red-sox-202110564.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Phillies name Pete Fatse their hitting coach, hire Joe Cronin as assistant hitting coach","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/phillies-name-pete-fatse-hitting-201200599.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
