Francisco Lindor wins MLB's Roberto Clemente Award

The Mets shortstop was named the 2026 recipient of baseball's top honor for character, philanthropy and community impact.

Francisco Lindor has added a different kind of hardware to his collection. On October 26, the Mets shortstop was named the 2026 recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award, Major League Baseball's highest individual honor for a player's character, philanthropy and community impact.

Lindor, a five-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger, has built a reputation on the field as one of the game's most recognizable shortstops. This award recognizes something separate from the stat sheet.

The honor carries extra weight for Lindor given his roots. He is a proud Puerto Rican native who grew up learning about Roberto Clemente, the Hall of Famer whose influence on the sport reached well beyond his playing career. Lindor now joins the list of players recognized for carrying forward that legacy of service, in what is described as the first time he has received the award despite a long history of philanthropic work.
