Magic's Suggs sidelined two weeks with knee bone bruise

An MRI ruled out major structural damage after Suggs went down against the Knicks, but Orlando must now navigate without him and injured star Paolo Banchero.

Jalen Suggs will be out at least two weeks after an MRI revealed a mild bone bruise in his right knee, the Orlando Magic announced Monday. The guard went down with a non-contact knee injury during Orlando's win over the New York Knicks on Sunday night, and the sight of his knee buckling on a layup attempt had fans bracing for the worst.

It wasn't. The team confirmed there was no other structural damage, and Suggs will simply be re-evaluated in two weeks. That's hardly a quick turnaround, but it's a far better outcome than the season-ending scenario many feared when he first went down.

The timing stings regardless. Suggs' injury came the same weekend Orlando learned star forward Paolo Banchero would also be sidelined with an ankle injury, leaving the Magic thin at the top of their rotation. For a team that has already made a habit of absorbing bad injury news, it's another test of depth early in the season. Orlando will need secondary scorers to step up while both players recover, with no firm timetable yet for Banchero's return.
