The problem is he is also a part-owner of the Raiders now, and the league has made clear that owners cannot be \"egregiously critical of officiating\" or question the integrity of a crew. Brady walked right up to that line, repeatedly.\n\nIn the third quarter, a roughing the passer call on Packers defender Karl Brooks for contact on Lions quarterback Jared Goff after an 18-yard throw drew an incredulous reaction. \"My goodness. What is that? There's no way!\" Brady said, working through the replay in real time trying to find where Brooks actually did anything wrong.\n\nHe was not done. In the fourth quarter, with Detroit up 17-14, Packers linebacker Derrick Barnes was flagged for unnecessary roughness on a late hit. \"What? There's no way,\" Brady said, arguing the defender cannot assume a pass will be dropped and let up.\n\nThe Packers fell to 4-3 with the loss. Whether the league views Brady's commentary as crossing from analysis into egregious criticism is now the question hanging over his dual role as broadcaster and owner.","published_at":"2026-10-26T16:07:40.188001+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"Tom Brady's criticism of officials tests limits of what a team owner can say","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/tom-bradys-criticism-of-officials-tests-limits-of-what-a-team-owner-can-say"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"‘There’s no way…’ – Tom Brady’s rant on officials during Lions-Packers game has fans talking","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/no-way-tom-brady-rant-101500798.html"},{"outlet":"Awful Announcing","publisher":"Awful Announcing","title":"Tom Brady rips officiating in Lions-Packers over soft calls","url":"https://awfulannouncing.com/fox/tom-brady-rips-officiating-lions-packers-soft-calls.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Tom Brady disgusted with several questionable penalties in Packers-Lions game","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7725034/2026/10/25/tom-brady-criticize-referees-penalties-packers-lions/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"“I Don’t Like It”: Tom Brady Slams Controversial Referee Call During Packers-Lions Clash","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/don-t-tom-brady-slams-004128464.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"‘Let’s just go to flag football’: Micah Parsons, Tom Brady rip refs for questionable roughing the passer call","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/let-just-flag-football-micah-004829273.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"‘That’s a Tough One’ — NFL Legend Tom Brady Disputes Controversial Officiating Decision During Fox’s Packers-Lions Broadcast","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/tough-one-nfl-legend-tom-003617177.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Tom Brady rips officiating in Lions-Packers over soft calls","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/tom-brady-rips-officiating-lions-010012494.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Even Tom Brady couldn’t believe officiating late in Packers-Lions game","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/even-tom-brady-couldn-t-022748452.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Tom Brady Could Face Punishment From NFL Over Comments During Packers-Lions","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/tom-brady-could-face-punishment-045256513.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Tom Brady's criticism of officials tests limits of what a team owner can say","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/tom-bradys-criticism-officials-tests-154613649.html"},{"outlet":"Front Office Sports","publisher":"Front Office Sports","title":"Tom Brady Candidly Questioned Officiating in Packers-Lions","url":"https://frontofficesports.com/article/tom-brady-candidly-questioned-officiating-in-packers-lions/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Tom Brady Candidly Questioned Officiating in Packers-Lions","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/tom-brady-candidly-questioned-officiating-173604355.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://nbcsports.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/ff853ce/2147483647/strip/false/crop/1920x1080+0+0/resize/1920x1080!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhdliveextra-a.akamaihd.net%2FHD%2Fimage_sports%2FNBCU_Sports_Group_-_nbcsports%2F623%2F919%2Fnbc_pft_officiating_261026.jpg","credit":"Pro Football Talk","width":1920},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
