The Jets receiver vented on the sideline during a 28-25 loss to the Dolphins that dropped New York to 2-5.
Garrett Wilson spent a few seconds yelling on the Jets sideline Sunday, and cameras at MetLife Stadium caught every bit of it. Geno Smith stood and listened, said nothing back, and Wilson eventually walked away. Afterward Wilson clarified he was frustrated with New York's red-zone play calls, not with his quarterback.
The moment came in the fourth quarter with the Jets trailing 21-14. New York finally got something going, driving 68 yards on 12 plays down to the Miami one-yard line. Then it all stalled: two unsuccessful runs and a sack of Smith killed the drive. The Jets went on to lose 28-25, falling to 2-5 on the season.
Wilson's explanation, relayed through multiple outlets, framed the outburst as frustration with play calling rather than a shot at Smith, who stayed silent through the exchange. Whether that distinction matters much to a team scuffling at 2-5 is another question. The red-zone breakdown that triggered the whole scene remains the bigger problem, and it is the kind of issue that does not fix itself with a sideline apology.
