A last-lap, three-wide scramble gave Kyle Larson his first Talladega victory and pushed his Chase points lead to 73 over Denny Hamlin with two races left.
Kyle Larson needed a bounce-back after his worst finish of the Chase, and he got it in dramatic fashion at Talladega Superspeedway. The defending series champion drove from 11th to first in the final mile, taking the white flag in the lead before getting shoved back as far as 10th on a bump from Austin Hill. He found his way back to the front anyway, winning a three-wide finish by a feet over Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron, who had spent much of the race pushing Larson toward the lead.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished third, 0.066 seconds behind. It was Larson's third win in the past seven races and his first at Talladega.
The victory widened Larson's championship lead over Denny Hamlin to 73 points with two races remaining in the Chase. After stumbling in his previous outing, Larson now heads into the stretch run in control, needing only to keep his car out of trouble while the field behind him tries to make up ground.
