United sink to 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth, Carrick's job in danger

Goals from Rayan and Marcus Tavernier gave Bournemouth a first-half lead United never threatened to overturn, stretching the hosts' winless run to eight matches.

Manchester United lost 3-0 to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, a result that leaves head coach Michael Carrick facing the sack. Rayan and Marcus Tavernier scored avoidable first-half goals for a well-drilled Cherries side, and home fans responded at the final whistle with boos and a banner reading "standards" as the players left the pitch.

The defeat extends United's winless run to an eighth straight match in all competitions. It comes days after a calamitous 4-1 loss at Champions League upstarts Como, a result that had already put Carrick's position in jeopardy. He had spoken with defiance and hope ahead of the Bournemouth game, but Sunday's meek performance made that stance look increasingly untenable.

The fallout goes beyond the man in charge. Sunday's mutiny at Old Trafford made clear that removing Carrick would not by itself fix United's deeper issues, with an underperforming squad that has repeatedly let down the club regardless of who has been picking the team. Whoever takes over next inherits the same group of players and the same problems.
