The defeat continues a rough start for a team still searching for its first win, but the bigger storyline inside the building has been rookie Yaxel Lendeborg.\n\nSteve Kerr didn't hold back afterward, pointing out areas where Lendeborg still needs to grow. It's a blunt reality check for a 24-year-old just three games into his career, though Kerr and his teammates have also praised him throughout the preseason and into the regular season.\n\nThe numbers explain why Lendeborg is already drawing this level of attention. Through three games he's averaging 18.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists, production that would be notable for any rookie, let alone one who also stirred things up with trash talk aimed at Luka Doncic in his debut. Kerr has called him fearless, huge, and full of skill, even while flagging the rough edges.\n\nFor now, Lendeborg is the rare bright spot on a winless roster, carrying both the production and the scrutiny that comes with it. The Warriors will need more than one rookie's flashes to turn the record around.","published_at":"2026-10-25T22:19:00.200423+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg gets blunt Steve Kerr reality check","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/25/sports/warriors-rookie-who-challenged-luka-doncic-gets-schooled-by-steve-kerr/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Warriors’ Steve Kerr Points Out ‘Poor’ Aspect of Yaxel Lendeborg’s Game","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/warriors-steve-kerr-points-poor-163717780.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Maturity is hiding behind Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg's swagger","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7719457/2026/10/24/yaxel-lendeborg-warriors-stats-rookie/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Warriors Yaxel Lendeborg Makes Mature Statement After Lakers Star Labeled Him ‘Old Rookie’","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/warriors-yaxel-lendeborg-makes-mature-110443268.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg doubles down on jawing with Luka Dončić: 'He's not Michael Jordan'","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/warriors-rookie-yaxel-lendeborg-doubles-down-on-jawing-with-luka-doncic-hes-not-michael-jordan-190346171.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg put the NBA on notice: He's not backing down from anyone","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/warriors-rookie-yaxel-lendeborg-put-232318035.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"'Very poor': Steve Kerr identifies major problem in Yaxel Lendeborg's game that 'has to improve'","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/very-poor-steve-kerr-identifies-115000710.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Yaxel Lendeborg is delivering hope even as the Warriors stumble","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/yaxel-lendeborg-delivering-hope-even-191353436.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg gets blunt Steve Kerr reality check","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/warriors-rookie-yaxel-lendeborg-gets-195118858.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://nypost.com/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2026%2F10%2FAP_Warriors_Suns_Basketball_35884-25b4b-0.jpg?w%3D1024","credit":"New York Post","width":5100},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
