McCaffrey exits 49ers-Falcons game with thigh injury

The running back was ruled questionable to return early in the second quarter, adding to San Francisco's growing injury list.

Christian McCaffrey headed to the injury tent early in the second quarter of San Francisco's Week 7 game against the Falcons, and the team quickly listed him as questionable to return with a thigh injury.

McCaffrey had scored the game's first touchdown before leaving, continuing what had been another strong start to his season. He has been central to a 49ers offense that entered the year looking like one of the best in football, and his health has been a major reason for that.

The timing is rough for San Francisco, which has already been dealing with a string of injuries to key playmakers. With McCaffrey sidelined, he was effectively the last healthy offensive weapon the 49ers had on the field Sunday, leaving the rest of the unit thinner than usual against Atlanta.

No further update on his status or the severity of the injury was available as of his exit.
