In a joint statement issued Sunday morning, the league and union said, \"The NFL and NFL Players Association are working together to review the matter.\"\n\nHurts is expected to be sidelined for at least the remainder of this season while being treated with blood thinners after blood clots were found in his lungs. A superficial blood clot had progressed into a deep vein thrombosis along with blood clots in each lung, prompting the medical shutdown.\n\nA source says the NFL and NFLPA are still discussing the process and details for a potential investigation, which has not formally launched. The collective bargaining agreement gives the NFLPA the right to initiate a joint investigation on its own, a step the union had called for last week. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said of that call, \"We welcome that.\"\n\nFor now, the two sides are proceeding collaboratively rather than through the union's unilateral authority, though further steps in the review are expected to follow.","published_at":"2026-10-25T16:05:30.666579+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Front Office Sports","publisher":"Front Office Sports","title":"NFL, Union Open Discussions on Joint Jalen Hurts Investigation","url":"https://frontofficesports.com/article/nfl-nflpa-jalen-hurts-blood-clot-investigation/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NFL, Union Open Discussions on Joint Jalen Hurts Investigation","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nfl-union-open-discussions-joint-153638576.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"NFL, NFLPA reviewing how QB Hurts' blood clot diagnosis was handled","url":"https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50276432/nfl-nflpa-handling-joint-review-jalen-hurts-diagnosis"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"NFL, NFLPA are \"working together\" to review Jalen Hurts situation","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/nfl-nflpa-are-working-together-to-review-jalen-hurts-situation"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"NFL, NFLPA 'working together' to review Jalen Hurts' medical care by Eagles","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7722890/2026/10/25/jalen-hurts-eagles-nfl-nflpa-review/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NFLPA has yet to launch "full investigation" of Jalen Hurts situation","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nflpa-yet-launch-full-investigation-113349129.html"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"NFLPA has yet to launch \"full investigation\" of Jalen Hurts situation","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/nflpa-has-yet-to-launch-full-investigation-of-jalen-hurts-situation"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NFL, NFLPA issue new statement on Jalen Hurts blood clot situation","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nfl-nflpa-issue-statement-jalen-133912159.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NFL and players' union working together to review the handling of Jalen Hurts' blood clot diagnosis","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nfl-players-union-working-together-135134162.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NFL & NFLPA Sent Loud Jalen Hurts Statement Before Eagles Week 7 Showdown","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nfl-nflpa-sent-loud-jalen-164035210.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://frontofficesports.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/2026-10-20T224306Z_1196512155_MT1USATODAY30139243_RTRMADP_3_NFL-PHILADELPHIA-EAGLES-AT-JACKSONVILLE-JAGUARS-1-scaled-e1792942094824.jpg?quality=80&w=1024","credit":"Front Office Sports","width":1024},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
