Five teams ranked inside the top 16 were upset by unranked teams, with No. 2 BYU among the casualties. Texas Tech also took a hit, sliding in both major polls after a loss of its own.\n\nDespite the carnage around it, Miami stayed put at No. 1, picking up 59 first-place votes. Ohio State moved up to No. 2, followed by Georgia, Indiana and Notre Dame to round out the top five.\n\nThe Coaches Poll saw similar movement, with Big 12 contenders Texas Tech and BYU both sliding after their losses. Several teams picked up votes without cracking the top 25, including Iowa, New Mexico, Cincinnati, Oregon State and South Carolina, a sign of just how unsettled the rankings are heading into the back half of the season.\n\nWith another full slate of results still being digested, expect more shuffling once Week 9 wraps up.","published_at":"2026-10-26T22:06:20.447411+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"College football rankings 2026: AP Top 25 poll entering Week 9","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/college-football-rankings-2026-ap-180146299.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Coaches Poll top 25: Big 12 contenders Texas Tech, BYU slide in Week 9 college football rankings","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/coaches-poll-top-25-texas-tech-byu-slide-week-9-college-football-rankings/"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"College football Top 25 scores and results for Week 8: No. 2 BYU, Texas Tech stunned","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7721026/2026/10/25/cfb-scores-results-week-8/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Tomorrow's Top 25 Today: Texas vaults back into top 10 as BYU, Texas Tech fall in college football rankings","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-rankings-tomorrows-top-25-ap-poll-texas-byu-texas-tech/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Yahoo Top 10: BYU's stunning upset loss shakes up college football picture","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/article/yahoo-top-10-byus-stunning-upset-loss-shakes-up-college-football-picture-055329978.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"AP Top 25 Poll Prediction: Now What For BYU, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech?","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ap-top-25-poll-prediction-055057036.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"College football rankings: Updated NCAA Top 25 Polls after BYU, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Tennessee losses in Week 8","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/college-football-rankings-updated-ncaa-100001464.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"2026 College Football Rankings Top 25 Week 9: Expert picks, analysis, AP projections including BYU, Utah","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/2026-college-football-rankings-top-133347276.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"AP Top 25: How will the college football rankings look after Week 8 upsets?","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ap-top-25-college-football-142945174.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Live updates: More big changes could be coming for the AP Top 25","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/live-updates-more-big-changes-162825945.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Texas jumps seven spots in new US LBM Coaches Poll after Ole Miss win","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/texas-jumps-seven-spots-us-165620884.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"AP top 25 poll: Texas, Utah take big jumps after wins in latest college football rankings","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/ap-top-25-poll-texas-utah-college-football-rankings/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Texas moves up to No. 11 but Houston falls to No. 18 in AP top 25 football poll","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/texas-moves-no-11-houston-191142996.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"AP Top 25 Poll Week 9: Where Did Utah, Texas, and Wisconsin Rank?","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ap-top-25-poll-week-194550448.html"},{"outlet":"Fox Sports","publisher":"Fox Sports","title":"2026 College Football Rankings: BYU Falls After Another Wild Week Of Upsets","url":"https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/joel-klatt-show-byu-cougars-miami-hurricanes-ohio-state"}],"image":{"url":"https://sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/2026/10/25/03e44c90-e506-4e4b-9ae9-fc5758b5004a/gettyimages-2301371012-2.jpg","credit":"CBS Sports","width":1920},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
