BYU falls from No. 2 as Week 8 upsets scramble AP Top 25

Five teams ranked in the top 16 lost to unranked opponents, while Miami holds onto the top spot with 59 first-place votes.

College football had another chaotic weekend, and the AP Top 25 shows it. Five teams ranked inside the top 16 were upset by unranked teams, with No. 2 BYU among the casualties. Texas Tech also took a hit, sliding in both major polls after a loss of its own.

Despite the carnage around it, Miami stayed put at No. 1, picking up 59 first-place votes. Ohio State moved up to No. 2, followed by Georgia, Indiana and Notre Dame to round out the top five.

The Coaches Poll saw similar movement, with Big 12 contenders Texas Tech and BYU both sliding after their losses. Several teams picked up votes without cracking the top 25, including Iowa, New Mexico, Cincinnati, Oregon State and South Carolina, a sign of just how unsettled the rankings are heading into the back half of the season.

With another full slate of results still being digested, expect more shuffling once Week 9 wraps up.
