The NFL fined the 49ers linebacker $65,673 total for two separate hits on Commanders tight end Chig Okonkwo during San Francisco's 23-17 Week 6 victory.\n\nThe first fine, $17,911, came for a hit on a defenseless player. Officials actually threw a flag on the play during the game but then picked it up, letting Warner off the hook in the moment. The league reviewed the tape afterward and decided the flag belonged there after all.\n\nThe second fine, $47,762, was for impermissible use of the helmet, with Warner leading with his head into Okonkwo. That one was never flagged on the field at all. Because it counts as a second offense under league rules, the fine carries extra weight, and reports note Warner now faces the threat of suspension if it happens again.\n\nWarner wasn't the only 49er to hear from the league office about Week 6, though not every hit drew a fine.","published_at":"2026-10-24T22:35:40.384539+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"49ers linebacker Fred Warner fined twice for hits in Week 6 win over Commanders, totaling $65,673","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/49ers-linebacker-fred-warner-fined-twice-for-hits-in-week-6-win-over-commanders-totaling-65673-222853051.html"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"49ers star Fred Warner hit with hefty fine as suspension threat looms","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/24/sports/49ers-star-fred-warner-hit-with-hefty-fine-as-suspension-threat-looms/"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"NFL levies two fines to 49ers LB Fred Warner for hit on Commanders TE Chig Okonkwo","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-levies-two-fines-to-49ers-lb-fred-warner/"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"Fred Warner was fined for hit on a defenseless player, Malik Mustapha was not","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/fred-warner-was-fined-for-hit-on-a-defenseless-player-malik-mustapha-was-not"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Fred Warner was fined for hit on a defenseless player, Malik Mustapha was not","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/fred-warner-fined-hit-defenseless-202432293.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"49ers’ Fred Warner fined $65,673 for two hits vs. Commanders","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/49ers-fred-warner-fined-65-205139964.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Fred Warner gets fined over $65,000 for two uncalled penalties","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/fred-warner-gets-fined-over-214300964.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"49ers star Fred Warner hit with hefty fine as suspension threat looms","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/49ers-star-fred-warner-hit-220928929.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/f409fa788f743604deae201b24421f776d7f0e4f271eb72ab84c59c7a87908f4/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1200_h675%3Bquality_80%3Bformat_webp/https%3A%2F%2Fd29szjachogqwa.cloudfront.net%2Fimages%2F2026-10%2Fd2ea122a-85d9-48cf-b8ad-55c1902df1f3","credit":"Yahoo Sports","width":1200},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
