The 49ers linebacker was docked a combined $65,673 for two hits on tight end Chig Okonkwo during San Francisco's 23-17 victory over Washington.
Fred Warner's big Monday night win came with a bill attached. The NFL fined the 49ers linebacker $65,673 total for two separate hits on Commanders tight end Chig Okonkwo during San Francisco's 23-17 Week 6 victory.
The first fine, $17,911, came for a hit on a defenseless player. Officials actually threw a flag on the play during the game but then picked it up, letting Warner off the hook in the moment. The league reviewed the tape afterward and decided the flag belonged there after all.
The second fine, $47,762, was for impermissible use of the helmet, with Warner leading with his head into Okonkwo. That one was never flagged on the field at all. Because it counts as a second offense under league rules, the fine carries extra weight, and reports note Warner now faces the threat of suspension if it happens again.
Warner wasn't the only 49er to hear from the league office about Week 6, though not every hit drew a fine.
