The segment aired Saturday as ESPN's roadshow set up in Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Big 12 matchup between Utah and Houston.\n\nSince Lee Corso's retirement ended the mascot headgear pick, McAfee climbing onto the studio desk to take his shirt off has become the show's new centerpiece. In recent weeks he has started pairing the move with needling the Times, and Saturday was no different.\n\nMcAfee stripped early, while it was still dark in the Mountain Time Zone, and used the moment to needle the paper directly. He imagined the Times writing him up with a line about \"this a**hole\" being shirtless at 9:02 a.m. Eastern, then shrugged it off with an apology aimed at the coach on set before carrying on with the bit.\n\nIt is the latest instance of McAfee folding media criticism into the live broadcast, a habit that has become as predictable as the shirt coming off itself.","published_at":"2026-10-24T22:04:13.177251+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Pat McAfee throws jab at New York Times again as he goes shirtless on ‘College GameDay’","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/24/sports/pat-mcafee-calls-out-nyt-again-as-he-goes-shirtless-on-college-gameday/"},{"outlet":"Awful Announcing","publisher":"Awful Announcing","title":"Pat McAfee takes shot at The New York Times while taking off shirt on ‘GameDay’","url":"https://awfulannouncing.com/espn/pat-mcafee-takes-shirt-off-new-york-times-college-gameday.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Pat McAfee takes shot at The New York Times while taking off shirt on ‘GameDay’","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/pat-mcafee-takes-shot-york-180406971.html"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Awful Announcing","publisher":"Awful Announcing","title":"Pat McAfee did not sound happy with Utah fans: ‘I’ll never see you again, hopefully’","url":"https://awfulannouncing.com/espn/pat-mcafee-utah-fans-never-see-you-again-hopefully-video.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Pat McAfee did not sound happy with Utah fans: ‘I’ll never see you again, hopefully’","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/pat-mcafee-did-not-sound-220058594.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Pat McAfee-Utah fans beef, explained: Why College GameDay host said he hopes to never see Ute faithful again","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/pat-mcafee-utah-fans-beef-232432344.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://nypost.com/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2026%2F10%2Fpat-mcafee-calls-nyt-goes-146350945.jpg?w%3D1024","credit":"New York Post","width":2490},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
