The Ravens quarterback misses a third straight game with a high ankle sprain as Tyler Huntley takes over against the Bengals.
Lamar Jackson was downgraded to out on Saturday, continuing his recovery from the high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 4 against the Titans. It marks the third consecutive game he has missed because of the injury, and Tyler Huntley will start in his place against the Bengals.
The move came a bit earlier than expected. With the Ravens hosting Cincinnati, they could have waited until Sunday to make the call. Teams usually only downgrade players on a Saturday when that player is with the road team and doesn't travel, so the early announcement suggested the team already had a clear picture of where Jackson stood.
Jackson had sounded hopeful on Friday, saying he was "heading in the right direction" and that pain, not swelling, was the main issue holding him back. He said walking didn't bother the ankle, but running brought the pain back, and that pushing through it now would only risk further damage.
Jackson returned to practice earlier in the week for the first time since getting hurt, but it wasn't enough to get him cleared in time for Sunday's game.
