The move keeps Blake in the Bronx after a season in which his pitching staff led all of Major League Baseball in ERA.\n\nBlake has overseen a steady improvement in the Yankees' pitching development and in-game strategy during his tenure, and the extension signals the front office's confidence that the results were not a one-year fluke. With the staff performing at the top of the league, ownership opted to secure Blake's future rather than risk losing him to another club looking to replicate New York's success.\n\nThe extension comes as the Yankees look ahead to roster decisions this offseason, with pitching remaining a central piece of their plans. Keeping continuity in the coaching staff, especially after a dominant year on the mound, gives the front office one less variable to manage while it sorts out the rest of the roster.","published_at":"2026-10-24T16:05:10.443312+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"MLB.com","publisher":"MLB.com","title":"Yankees agree to 3-year extension with pitching coach Blake (report)","url":"https://www.mlb.com/news/yankees-pitching-coach-matt-blake-contract-extension"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Pitching coach Matt Blake gets Yankees extension after staff’s dominant season","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/24/sports/matt-blake-gets-yankees-extension-after-pitching-staffs-dominant-season/"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Yankees, pitching coach Matt Blake finalizing 3-year contract extension: Source","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7717372/2026/10/24/matt-blake-yankees-contract-extension/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Yankees nearing deal with pitching coach Matt Blake in crucial offseason move","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/yankees-nearing-deal-pitching-coach-161823673.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Yankees extend key coach for 3 years, but not Aaron Boone","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/yankees-extend-key-coach-3-143212013.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Yankees and pitching coach Matt Blake agree on three-year contract extension","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/yankees-pitching-coach-matt-blake-164313870.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Yankees sign pitching coach Matt Blake to 3-year contract extension","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/yankees-sign-pitching-coach-matt-blake-to-3-year-contract-extension-170944131.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/t_2x1/t_w1536/mlb/tx7qnzrnk054srrc49bq.jpg","credit":"MLB.com","width":1536},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
