The Oregon State freshman receiver, who has turned into the biggest surprise of the college football season, told ESPN's Pete Thamel he has re-signed with the Beavers and will return to play there in 2027.\n\nThe announcement matters because Legree had the kind of season that usually sends freshmen straight into transfer portal speculation. He currently leads the nation in receiving with 1,040 yards and 14 touchdowns, numbers that come with significant Power 4 interest attached. Instead, he is choosing to build on what he started in Corvallis.\n\nLegree's breakout included a 90-yard touchdown in a win over Washington State, part of a stretch that has Oregon State sitting at 5-2 overall and 3-0 in Pac-12 play. The Beavers are using their bye week to regroup before conference play resumes, now with some clarity about their top receiver's future.\n\nFor a program that has had to fight to keep talent amid conference realignment chaos, locking in a nationally leading receiver before the portal even opens counts as a win in itself.","published_at":"2026-10-23T22:17:59.704498+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Oregon State’s Jesse Legree makes huge decision on future with Beavers","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/oregon-state-jesse-legree-makes-200943427.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Jesse Legree, nation's leading receiver, announces return to Oregon State for sophomore year","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/jesse-legree-oregon-state-return-sophomore-season-2027/"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Oregon State standout WR Legree re-signs with Beavers for '27","url":"https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/50259547/oregon-state-standout-wr-jesse-legree-re-signs-beavers-27"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Jesse Legree announces he'll stay at Oregon State in 2027 amid breakout freshman season","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7717815/2026/10/23/jesse-legree-oregon-state-returning/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Star Oregon State WR Jesse Legree says he won't transfer and will return to Beavers in 2027","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/star-oregon-state-wr-jesse-legree-says-he-wont-transfer-and-will-return-to-beavers-in-2027-184316602.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Jesse Legree to return to Oregon State for 2027 season","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/jesse-legree-return-oregon-state-190237416.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Standout true freshman WR Jesse Legree re-signs with Oregon State for 2027 season","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/standout-true-freshman-wr-jesse-225837122.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
