Packers to be without linebacker Zaire Franklin against Lions

Franklin, Green Bay's second-leading tackler, suffered a shin injury in practice and will sit out Sunday.

Zaire Franklin is out for the Packers' Week 7 matchup against the Lions, sidelined by a shin injury he picked up in practice. Franklin, the team's second-leading tackler, is the only Green Bay starter listed with a definitive status heading into Sunday's game at Detroit.

Losing Franklin is a real blow to a Packers defense that leans on him for run support and coverage duties at linebacker. Four other players carry questionable tags on the injury report, leaving some uncertainty about who else might be limited or unavailable once the game starts.

For now, Green Bay's coaching staff will need to lean on depth at linebacker to fill the void left by Franklin's absence. How the Packers reshuffle their front seven without one of their steadiest defenders will be worth watching once the game kicks off against a Lions team that will look to exploit any weakness in the middle of Green Bay's defense.
