Milwaukee enters as the heavy favorite after a 103-59 season, while Tampa Bay arrives as AL East champions looking for a historic first title.
The 2026 World Series opens Friday night at American Family Field, where the Milwaukee Brewers host the Tampa Bay Rays at 8 p.m. ET on FOX. Neither franchise has ever won a World Series, so somebody's history book gets a new chapter no matter how this goes.
Milwaukee comes in loaded. The Brewers went 103-59, finished first in the NL Central, and claimed the best record in all of baseball. They swept the Dodgers in four straight to escape the NLCS after last year's near miss, and they're riding a five-game winning streak with a 2.02 ERA through eight postseason games. William Contreras has been the offensive engine, hitting .367 with 3 home runs this postseason.
Tampa Bay reached its third World Series after going 98-64 and winning the AL East. The Rays have exceeded expectations most of the season, and while their regular-season run differential of plus-86 is modest next to Milwaukee's plus-214, they've made a habit of outperforming the numbers on paper.
Game 1 is the first of what both teams hope stretches toward four wins. First pitch is set for Milwaukee, with the Brewers holding home-field advantage throughout.
