UN atomic watchdog says found tons of nuclear material at Syria site

The government of Syria, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, granted the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) access to a formerly secret nuclear site and vowed to cooperate with the agency. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi visited Damascus and said inspectors found several tons of nuclear material at the site, which Damascus had reported to the agency last month. The site dates back to the rule of ousted former leader Bashar al-Assad, and Grossi praised the decision to report it. Damascus also stated it would defend its right to nuclear energy.
