During an August 2026 WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever at State Farm Arena, arena security told two fans, Kasey Thomason and her daughter Annie, to cover or remove their XX-XY Athletics shirts, offering them replacement shirts to wear. The Atlanta Dream stated that WNBA security, not team personnel, made the decision, and the WNBA issued a statement acknowledging the incident should not have happened. Separately, video from the same game showed the Atlanta Dream remaining in the locker room during the national anthem, a practice the team and some other WNBA teams, including the Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty, have followed during the season, while Fever players Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark were shown on the court during the anthem. The Fever defeated the Dream 95-91 in overtime.
